You can Comment again!

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Sorry, I realised earlier today that I changed permissions to comment on our site a few weeks ago. I did this after we got some unwanted, antagonistic or just rude hacks and spam emails to the site.

So i’m sorry if you wanted to comment but couldn’t. But now you can. So I hope you’ll do so again soon.

To Mr Viagra

Saturday, April 1st, 2006

Amazing what secrets the internet can unlock…

Our site has been attacked for the last two days by a roaming hacking program that uses other computers to post comments on our blogs. They’re really exciting messages… normally “Hi” with a smiley face.

They are apparently sent by someone who calls himself Viagra. Also fairly unimaginative I think. If you are going to roam the internet, at least give yourself a good name, eh?

Wordpress has a funky facility to trace the source machine or server that has posted the blog. This doesn’t necessarily help… as it is unlikely that a hacker will use the same server or IP twice. Or will be allowed to.

But in this case, they have. So, to Mr Viagra, of Potosi 1517, Montevideo, in Paraguay, who is forwarding a message of great hope to mankind (or maybe that should just be to “man”?!) originating from a server in Brazil. And who regularly uses a comcast based in San Jose, in the US… Get a bend on! (sorry, bad joke) Leave our website alone you low-life pharmacist!

Web-bugs!

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

This morning, I discovered that a bug has been working at our website….and changed some of the links on the side-bar so they direct you to porn-sites or gambling sites. Ironically, only links under “useful stuff” seem to have been affected! Cause for concern, given how much security stuff is built into Wordpress, the program used to develop this site.

If you notice anything on our website when using links or when viewing pages, please get in contact with me immediately through email. Thanks.

Graduation webcam!

Tuesday, January 10th, 2006

I was delighted to watch my graduation by webcam a few days ago! It was held on 12th December in Leeds. However, being the middle of the day, it was a pretty slow and interrupted connection here in Chile. But i’m sure its better in the UK. You can view it by clicking
here.
My course graduate after around 38 minutes.

Its a bit wierd watching for yourself on a webcam recording… the voices of people sound “tin-ny” at best and Rachel thought it was like a stramge CCTV tape of people floating across a stage! And it turns out that those graduating in absentia aren’t even mentioned! So I needn’t have watched at all, except that it was great to see my friends from Leeds graduate!

Nevertheless, it’s an astounding piece of technology.
