Hace frio
I’ve just returned from a chat with our concierge.
While talking, we were interupted by a neigbour and her 3 year old who asked: “is it cold outside?”. The concierge replied, sweating as he wrote a receipt for me and having his breakfast at the same time, “yes, its really cold…. ch ch ch… really cold. You need to wrap her up well this morning”.
Sure enough, the neighbour pulled a scarf out of her bag and the girl left the building cosy warm.
I tried not to laugh. “hace frio”?? Really?
I returned to the flat, checked the thermometer: 25C. Hardly frosty.
We’re shivering as we eat our breakfast on the balcony, honestly. But there is a collective fear of the cold amongst chileans, that results in them wearing many layers while we wander around in shorts and Tshirts “making them feel cold”. It turns your average granny’s advice in Scotland on its head!

Hey R&D (research and development:-)) I meant to let you know when I was in to get to chat you you soon but have been so busy. I’ll be in tomorrow most of the day at last so do phone if you’re able but I haven’t had the chance to keep up with your activities and you may be on a trip to the moon so or visiting one of R’s black holes. Nasty things those. I had a run in with one once.
I am going to do something very weird now and leave my email address here anastasiasomerville@hotmail.com because of a peculiar reason I’ll explain sometime! It’s the only way I can get it to a friend!

PS: I saw the lunar eclipse recently. Sorry we got in the way of your light. You must be frozen. Man, I’m off my rocker :-)…

‘Ne’er cast a clout till May is oot’ doesn’t work in the Southern Hemisphere does it?
